MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting the number of passengers flying to or from New York Stewart International Airport decreased by 7 percent in April. The dip can be attributed to the decision to ground the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Those jets were used by Norwegian Air for daily flights to European cities. For now, the airline has cut back to providing just Dublin flights aboard a larger leased aircraft. The April passenger count dropped to 46,890, with year-to-date traveler numbers declining by 6 percent. Stewart Chief Operating Officer Oscar Hollenbeck told the Stewart Airport Commission this week the 737 Max jets are expected to be back in service in September. Cargo numbers are also down, with tonnage declining by 4.8 percent. That number is expected to grow substantially as a new service is scheduled to begin later this year with five Boeing 747 jets flying cargo and mail to California on weekdays.
