On Dec. 6 lame-duck Hudson Mayor Rick Rector vetoed a proposed local law imposing a nine-month ban on new short-term rentals. It is the second time this year Rector rejected real estate-related legislation passed by the Common Council. In the spring, Rector twice vetoed Common Council legislation to throw out property tax assessments from GAR Associates that ballooned over 300 percent for some homeowners. On the short-term rental issue, Rector said the length of the ban was a too long for him, and he seemed to also complain about "lengthy discussions, reviews, and meetings" that took place in public before the Common Council voted on the nine-month ban on new short-term rentals. "The nine-month moratorium sends a message to residents, business owners, and outsiders that Hudson is not fully open for business," Rector's statement, which was not posted on the city of Hudson's website, said.
