Teachers union sues to overturn tax cap

The Associated Press reported the state's largest teachers union and several parents last week sued to overturn the state's property tax cap, alleging it is unconstitutional. The New York State United Teachers contend the tax cap widens the gap between rich and poor districts and interferes with local control of schools. The state Supreme Court case filed in Albany, names Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, Education Commissioner John King Jr. and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Read the full AP story in the Times Union.
