AG sues 3M over selling firefighting foam containing PFOA

Larry Rulison is reporting for the Times Union state Attorney General Letitia James is suing 3M Co. and other chemical manufacturers for selling firefighting foam chemicals to airports and industrial sites across the state that contain the cancer-causing compound perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA. The Daily Gazette first reported the details of the lawsuit which was filed Feb 8 in state Supreme Court in Albany County. Several of the contaminated sites named in the suit are located in the Capital Region, including the Empire Generating Co. power plant and the AMRI pharmaceutical factory in Rensselaer. The Momentive Performance Materials silicones plant in Waterford and the SI Group chemical plant in Rotterdam have also been contaminated with PFOAs, according to the suit.
