Judge rules Assembly redistricting, primary stay in place

Nick Reisman reports for New York State of Politics that state Supreme Court Judge Patrick McAllister ruled May 11 that New York State's new Assembly districts will remain in place for a June 28 primary election. A different judge ruled the Congressional and State Senate district lines were gerrymandered, and ordered new districts be drawn, and those primary elections moved to Aug. 23. Then a Greene County-based man, Gary Greenberg, and Republican activist Gavin Wax, filed a suit against the Assembly redistricting. But McAllister said there is not enough time to draw new lines before a June 28 primary. Wax has previously indicated he would appeal a negative ruling to a higher court.
