Carnright won't run for another term as Ulster County District Attorney
Feb 07, 2019 12:15 am
Patricia R. Doxsey reports in The Daily Freeman that Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright will not seek another term in November, he announced Feb. 6. "It’s time for me to take another path,” said Carnright. The Republican has held the post for 12 years. “I love what I do, and there’s no compelling reason for me to leave. I just think after 40 years [of working as a lawyer], it’s time for me to do something different." He would like to see Chief Assistant District Attorney Michael J. Kavanagh run as a Republican in November, as his father, E. Michael Kavanagh, held the office from 1978 to 1998. Woodstock lawyer David Clegg has already announced he is running for the post as a Democrat. Clegg lost in last year's Democratic primary in New York's 19th Congressional District. The Ulster County Democratic Committee holds its convention to nominate candidates on Feb. 20, and Republicans hold theirs Feb. 23. Read the full story in The Daily Freeman.
