Poll finds support for legalization of pot waning a bit
Mar 19, 2019 6:30 am
Chris McKenna is reporting at The Fray a majority of New Yorkers support legalizing adult-use cannabis, but the margin in favor has decreased, according to results released March 18, by Siena College. In the latest Siena poll, 53 percent of the 700 registered voters surveyed by phone from March 10 through 14 supported legalization, 43 percent opposed it, and 4 percent took no position. By comparison, the split in January was 56 percent to 41 percent, with 3 percent giving no opinion. Support among Democrats has remained strong, at 65 percent, but that decreased slightly among Republicans — from 39 to 36 percent. Support for legalization also decreased among independent voters, those between the ages of 18 and 34 and among people earning less than $50,000 a year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo included a plan to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana production and sales in his budget proposal. Whether the legalization of pot remains in the budget due by April 1 or is debated during the post-budget session remains to be seen. Read the full story at The Fray.
