Feb 10, 2021 5:45 am

Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Nick Zachos is stepping down from his role as Hudson Youth Director after four years on the job. Zachos announced the decision at the Hudson Common Council informal meeting February 8, adding that he would be staying on to supervise the search for his successor. “...I think I’m ready at a certain level ... to go on to my next phase and think about what’s next for me,” Zachos said. Although he is unsure of his next steps, he said he will be working in the community one way or another. An applicant with managerial experience who has worked with youth and understands what youth in Hudson are facing is ideal for the role, Zachos said. Second Ward Alderwoman and Majority Leader Tiffany Garriga was sad to hear the news and thanked him for his impact on the department. "I’m sad to see Nick go,” Common Council President Thomas DePietro said. “We’ve worked together closely for three years now and I’ve been an avid supporter of all that he has done for our city.” Mayor Kamal Johnson said of Zachos' announcement, “I support him and his choice. I think that he came in to the youth center at a time where it really needed a champion and somebody to kind of bring it back to life and he did just that and more." Note: DePietro and Johnson are WGXC volunteer on-air programmers. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
