Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Hudson Development Corporations’ Board of Directors discussed developing, or selling, the former Kaz Inc. site. along the city’s waterfront at their monthly meeting Sept. 25. Currently, the board is not close to selecting a developer for the former plastics manufacturing site at 14-17 Montgomery and S. Front streets. “This project sucks enormous energy from us,” Board member Robert Rasner said. “…I am wondering why we shouldn’t just drive a for sale sign in the front and seek a real estate that will take on the four acres and sell it?.... We can’t get on with almost any project without putting this [Kaz project] behind us.” Others weren't so sure. “I think the city and the public is interested in controlling and dictating how that site would be used,” newly appointed board member Steve Dunn said. “If we sell it, it could be used for anything. Granted, we could have restrictions in the contract, but as soon as we do that, we’re going back to what is our vision for the site?... There is a lot of controversy and I don’t fully understand it, but before I would support moving on something, I would want to thoroughly understand the implications of doing that and get public input.” There was a proposal to form a committee on the issue, but ultimately the board took no action on the Kaz property Sept. 25.
