Siena finds support for ending vaccination exemption, legalizing marijuana

Mike Goodwin is reporting for the Times Union New York voters support an end to the religious exemption for vaccinations and the legalization of recreational marijuana, according to a poll released June 10, by the Siena Research Institute. Among those surveyed, 84 percent favored the elimination of the vaccination exemption, up from 78 percent in April. The state remains in the midst of a major measles outbreak. Support for the legalization of marijuana also increased, up to 55 percent, and increase of 3 percent over the previous poll. Siena also found strong support for an Equal Rights Amendment to the state Constitution, at 72 percent, as well as strong opposition to the idea of issuing driver's licenses to undocumented residents, at 53 percent. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's favorability rating has increased to 52 percent, but 58 percent of voters polled said Cuomo should not seek a fourth term. And if the presidential election were held today, President Donald Trump would lose to both Sen. Kirsten Gellibrand and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio by wide margins.
