Dutchess Co. Legislature approves DCC 2016-17 budget
The Mid-Hudson News Network is reporting the Dutchess County Legislature voted Mon., Jul. 11, to approve the Dutchess Community College 2016-17 budget, totaling $64 million. Under the spending plan, tuition will increase by $168, to nearly $3,600 per year for full-time students. Northern Dutchess Legislator, Democrat Joel Tyner, cast the only "no" vote. He called the budget "immoral," and said the county should have done more to prevent a tuition hike. He advocated using a portion of the county's $57 million rainy-day fund to negate the need for a tuition increase. The Columbia County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the Columbia-Greene Community College 2016-17 budget at 7 p.m. tonight. That spending plan calls for a tuition increase of 4.5 percent, or an additional $96 per semester for a full-time student. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
