Unknown at the time, the package contained two boxes of strike-anywhere matches, firefighters said. According to Greenville Fire Chief Kip Drollette, no one was injured and no damage was reported to the building. “Just some smoke,” he said. “We vented the building, and all was back to business as normal.” According to the U.S. Postal Service website, mailing self-strike matches is prohibited. “Strike-anywhere matches will light from friction against any surface,” the USPS states. “Strike-anywhere matches may not be mailed ...” Safety matches with treated match heads that will only ignite when struck against a specially prepared surface may be mailed domestically, but must be sent via ground transportation.
