Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County lawmakers were told October 19, the contractors building the new county jail have 67 working days left to go at the site. Crews have been working on the 64-bed facility for 482 days without any accidents or COVID-19 cases, Bruce Haeussler with The Pike Company said. The number of workers on-site has increased from about 60 per day to 120, he said. “How’s my million-dollar garage coming?” teased Legislator Charles Martinez, Coxsackie Republican. “It looks beautiful,” Haeussler said. “We’re getting ready to etch your name on the side of it.” At one point, the jail garage was a hotly debated topic among lawmakers. The cost of the building was reduced from the original $1.3 million to a little more than $800,000, Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden said in June. The lawmakers approved a series of change orders, all within contract allowances this week. An additional $14,803 was authorized for Jersen Construction Group, of Waterford, for work on the balcony and railings; $5,508 to Bellamy Construction, of Schenectady, for water main repair; and $10,920 to Nfrastucture Technologies, of Clifton Park, for electrical work. And a reduction of $40,000 was authorized for SMRT Architects & Engineers, of Latham, for a decrease in the cost of furniture, fixtures and equipment. The substantial completion date for the jail is January 2021. Substantial completion means jail personnel can begin moving into the building while final punch-list items are completed. The state Commission of Correction will conduct a round of inspections after the contractors are finished. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
