Freshwater fishery looking at Local Ocean plant
Sep 26, 2013 7:31 am
Nathan Mayberg is reporting in the Register Star the owner of the former Local Ocean facility in Greenport is in discussion with Atlantic Capes Fisheries to take over the property. Atlantic Capes is a Massachusetts-based seafood company. Representatives of the company have been visiting the site during the last couple of days, according to Greenport Town Supervisor John Porreca. The facility is currently a saltwater plant. Changes will be required to accommodate a freshwater operation, and may place a strain on the town's water supply. The company will need a half million gallons of water a day. Porreca said, "We're not too thrilled about that." The new company would need to get approval for the change of use from the Greenport Planning Board. Read the full story in the Register Star.
