Catskill making way for a new hotel

Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia Greene Media that it is costing taxpayers $400,000 to soon tear down the former Quality Inn on Route 23B at Exit 21 in Catskill, with $250,000 tax dollars from the state coming back locally toward the project. The Greene County Industrial Development Agency hopes to lure a new hotel to the site near the Interstate-87 exit. The IDA is waiting on contractors to tear the old hotel down soon. The agency demolished four houses in September on an eight-lot, 64-acre adjacent property. IDA Executive Director Rene VanSchaack says hotels have already been contacting them about the property. “We will be putting out an [request for proposals] for the property,” VanSchaack said at the Catskill town board meeting Dec. 4. “We want something that will be good for tourism and generate sales tax,” VanSchaack said. Catskill Town Supervisor Doreen Davis agreed. “I’m hopeful for a hotel — that’s everyone’s priority,” she said. Read the full story in HudsonValley360.com.
