What are the campaign mailers for? Recycling

Oct 15, 2014 12:07 pm
Matthew Hamilton in Capitol Confidential shows off PDFs of 12 different campaign mailers from various groups -- left, right, one group that supports both Republicans and Democrats, but none from the Greene Party -- in the 46th State Senate race between incumbent Cecilia Tkaczyk and Republican George Amedore. Just two years ago, Tkaczyk beat Amedore by just 18 votes, and, with the Senate in balance between the two parties, potential voters in Greene, Schoharie, Albany, and other counties in the large district, have lots of mail to sort. Wikipedia reports, "In the US, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 44 percent of junk mail is discarded without being opened or read, equalling four million tons of waste paper per year, with 32 percent recovered for recycling."
