Ulster County first locally with vaccination plan details

Jan 06, 2021 6:33 am
Mike Stribl reports in the Daily Freeman that on Jan. 5 Ulster County revealed an elaborate vaccination distribution plan, the first local county with many details about its plan to end the pandemic. Starting Jan.11 the Kate Walton Field House at Kingston High School will be the county's primary vaccine site while the Ellenville Regional Hospital will begin as the secondary site Jan. 14. At first only health personnel, emergency medical service workers, and residents and staff members at senior living facilities, will receive shots for coronavirus, and at first it will be appointment only. The Field House will be open seven days a week and have 25 vaccination stations, plus a physically-distanced waiting area for up to 80 people. The Ellenville site will only be open on weekdays. In all, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan said in a Jan. 5 Facebook live video that they should be able to provide 50,000 vaccines per month -- 45,000 at the Kingston location, and 5,000 in Ellenville. Ryan said hospitals, health care facilities, pharmacies, and health care providers’ offices will be added as vaccination sites soon. Here is what Ryan said on that Facebook video: Click here to play or download excerpt of Pat Ryan's talk. Ulster County is working with the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, and the state Department of Health on the plan. Columbia County health officials have released a little information about vaccine distribution, while Greene County officials have been mostly mum so far on details. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases locally continues to grow. Greene County announced 50 new COVID-19 cases on Jan. 5. There were 24 new positive test results in Columbia County announced today by the state's webtracker. There were 170 new cases in Dutchess County, and 97 in Ulster County Jan. 5. There were 114 new COVID-19 cases in Rensselaer County, and Albany County had 257 new cases, and another death.
