Gibson signs on to anti-domestic surveillance bill

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist is reporting at Capitol Confidential U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson’s office said Wed., Oct. 30, the Kinderhook Republican has signed onto a bill that would “end the government’s dragnet collection of phone records and will require greater oversight, transparency, and accountability with respect to domestic surveillance authorities.” The USA FREEDOM Act would, among other things, halt the National Security Agency’s bulk phone record collection and allow tech and telecom companies to reveal more information about what they are forced to turnover to the government. “I refuse to accept the false choice that we have to give up our civil liberties and the rights that define us as Americans to remain safe,” Gibson said in a statement.
