Business owners concerned about parking

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the village of Catskill's growing pains continue as business owners in its so-called second business district struggle with concerns over insufficient parking. With the increased number of businesses in the village and limited street parking, the village board needs to explore other options, Village President Vincent Seeley said. The trustees have not decided on what path to take, he said, but the issue is on their radar. “We will be expanding our focus over the next year on the [West Bridge Street] corridor between our historic district and our box stores,” he said April 1. Seeley has requested the planning board review the layout of the area and to brainstorm ways to mitigate the challenge. Options under consideration including a plan to work with business owners to have employees park away from the street and the village would then provide a shuttle service to bring them back and forth from their vehicles. Another option is to reconfigure the parking space altogether, and to install parking meters, Seeley said. Newly elected trustee and business owner Natasha Law said building a new lot in that area is not an option. “There is not anywhere to build a parking lot,” she said. “We need to find [existing] parking and shuttle people around.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
