Common Council adopts $12M city budget

Nov 29, 2012 7:11 am
Kyle Adams reports in the Register Star the Hudson Common Council adopted the city's 2013 budget at a special meeting Wed., Nov. 28. The nearly $12 million spending plan does not call for a tax increase, cuts several departments and raises the salaries for department heads, commissioners, aldermen and Common Council President. Sewer and water rates will remain unchanged in 2013, with the exception of metered customers using more than 10,000 gallons of water. Those users will pay an increased rate next year. The bottom line was increased for the majority of city departments, except the fire and youth departments. Fire saw a decrease of more than 13 percent in its bottom line, while youth was cut by more than 10 percent. There are no city layoffs or department eliminations planned, however, Mayor Bill Hallenbeck Jr. cautioned cost-saving measures with potential for further cuts will be considered throughout the coming year.
