Nick Olivari reports in the Register-Star that the Harlem Valley Rail Trail Association broke ground in Copake Nov. 17 on a 1.5-mile section of trail in Copake. After around $600,000 in work by the Hudson-based A. Colarusso & Son firm, the new section between the Anthony Street Extension in Hillsdale and Black Grocery Road in Copake should open for Memorial Day 2017. “My vision is that the things we love about our region should be the drivers of a sustainable future both economically and environmentally,” said Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, D-106, on hand for the groundbreaking. “The rail trail is a perfect example.” The group has a preliminary design for the trail between Philmont and Chatham. The 42-mile-long trail, when completed, begins at the Metro North Station in Wassaic in Dutchess County and ends in Chatham. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
