Athens village officials move filter repair forward
Greg Hudson is reporting in The Daily Mail Athens village officials last week approved the funding needed to repair a filter that cleans the village’s water supply. The filter is one of two used in the water filtration plant at Hollister Lake. It malfunctioned approximately two weeks ago. At an emergency meeting Fri., Dec. 9, the Village Board of Trustees voted to allocate $40,000 for the repairs. "We really don’t want to wait any longer than necessary to have this filter back online again," Mayor Chris Pfister said. The materials for the repair should arrive in three to four weeks, he said. Pfister also said filter manufacturers inspected the plant last week and said the plant’s second filter could suffer a similar failure. He said the Department of Public Works will install the new equipment on filter one and get it back online. Once that happens, filter two will be turned off, cleaned out and inspected for problems. Pfister assured board members that the repairs were affordable. "We’ve got the cash sitting in the bank to get us going on this," he said. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
