First national results coming in

8:02 p.m. CNN is reporting President Barack Obama is leading challenger Mitt Romney in electoral votes, but lags behind in the popular vote by three points. With 54 percent of the votes counted, the race is a near dead heat in Florida; Obama is leading as the results are being processed in both New Hampshire and Ohio. The polls in the battleground states of Colorado, Nevada, Iowa and Wisconsin remain open. Polls close in New York at 9 p.m.

8:37 p.m. The networks are projecting Obama the winner in New Jersey, with its 14 electoral votes. CNN is projecting Romney the winner in Arkansas and Tennessee with their combined 17 electoral votes.

9:01p.m. CNN is reporting that Romney will win Alabama and it's nine electoral votes.

9:10p.m. CNN is reporting that Romney will win Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming with Obama winning New York and Michigan.

9:13p.m. CNN projects  that The Republican Party will retain control of the House of Representatives.

9:50 p.m. CNN reports Obama winning Pennsylvania and it's 20 electoral votes.
