Columbia County's Director of Public Health, Jack Mabb, said Wed., Apr. 15, Columbia County residents will soon be able to access a drive-up clinic locally. In an interview with WGXC-FM, Mabb said the county expects to take possession of 1,000 tests on Thursday and a decision on the clinic location will follow. He said the county site will be run in a way similar to the state-run clinic on the University at Albany campus. More details about the Columbia County location, and other guidelines, as well as details on when the site will open, will be announced next week. As of Wednesday morning, 99 people in Columbia County have tested positive for the coronavirus; 27 are residents of the Pine Haven Nursing Facility in Philmont. One more death occurred overnight, bringing the number of COVID-19-related fatalities in Columbia County to 10. The health department has 100 more people under observation and mandatory quarantine. Mabb advised all county residents to continue to heed Gov. Andrew Cuomo's repeated warnings about the risk of transmission and to maintain the social distancing provisions of NYS on Pause. Mabb said he was "disappointed" to learn that some local churches held Easter services over the weekend. He said that while he sympathized with the impulse it was important for everyone to hold the line on social distancing. Mabb predicted that once the time is right, the state will reopen gradually, with the first wave consisting of "one-on-one businesses," such as barbershops, beauty salons and nail salons.
