Columbia Co. avoids overdose spike that hit the Capital Region

May 25, 2020 1:30 pm
The Columbia County Department of Health issued a press release late last week acknowledging the significant increase in the number of overdoses in the Capital Region. The department said as of May 21, Columbia County was not in an overdose spike. Rensselaer County officials May 21, announced that at least two drug overdose deaths occurred in Troy, as well as 30 overdoses around the Capital Region, between the afternoon of May 20, and the morning of May 21, after a potentially lethal batch of cocaine laced with fentanyl was sold to users. In Columbia County, community partners are mobilizing a mass distribution of available Narcan and fentanyl testing strips. Anyone in active addiction is encouraged to use safely or to seek help; to have access to Narcan; and to let a friend or loved one know where you are. Those in need of Narcan are advised to contact Greener Pathways at 518-822-7437. Call 911 immediately to report an overdose; minutes matter and you can save a life. Reporters are protected by the Good Samaritan Law. Help is available by calling Greener Pathways at 518-822-7437 or Columbia County Pathways To Recovery at 877-467-3365.  Read the full press release at columbiacountynyhealth [dot] com.
