Winter Storm Watch: Snow, frigid temps coming

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Mohawk and Schoharie valleys, eastern Catskills, Capital Region, Mid-Hudson Valley, Taconics, southern Vermont, Berkshires and Litchfield Hills, effective late Wed., Jan. 1 to early Fri., Jan. 3. Heavy snow is expected, with accumulations of more than nine inches possible. Light snow will begin to fall Wednesday night, become steadier during the day Thursday and continue into Thursday night. The snow will taper off around sunrise, Friday. Northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph are expected across the region. Temperatures will hover in the single digits and teens Wednesday and Thursday, falling to a range of 10F to -5F, Thursday night.
