Rick Karlin is reporting at Capitol Confidential the New York State Association of School Business Officials has analyzed information submitted to the Office of the State Comptroller by school districts across the state and found that the average property tax levy increase proposed for the 2017-18 school is 1.82 percent. The group found that 98 percent of the districts are proposing increases below the cap, and just 15 districts are planning override budgets. Those are spending plans that require a two-thirds majority of voters to exceed the cap. The law requires school districts to submit on March 1, to the Office of the State Comptroller data needed to calculate their tax caps and their proposed taxes for the next school year. Ninety-six percent of the state school districts completed the filing on time this year. Read the full story at Capitol Confidential.
