Taconic Hills $38.9M 2021-22 budget comes without tax levy hike
Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Taconic Hills Board of Education has adopted a $38.9 million spending plan for the 2021-22 school year, which requires no tax levy increase for district property owners. State aid to the district has been increased by 2.26 percent over the current year. The district will also receive $512,037 in federal Cares Act Restoration funding. BOCES aid will drop by 15.3 percent, or nearly $88,000, while spending on software, librar,y and textbooks decreases by just under $5,300 or almost five percent. In addition to the budget, Proposition #2 will appear on the ballot, asking voters to choose from among three candidates to fill two open seats on the Board of Education. The winners will each serve a five-year term, beginning July 1. Those running include incumbents Bonnie Torchia and Linda Lee, along with former board member William Arp. Proposition #3 calls for spending a maximum of $254,000 to purchase two full-size school buses and Proposition #4 calls for creating a Capital Reserve Fund of up to $5 million. The fund would be used to finance capital improvements to school property and buildings as well as the acquisition of furnishings, computers, equipment, machinery, and technology. The Taconic Hills Board of Education will hear public opinion on the 2021-22 budget at 6:30 p.m., Wed., May 5, at the district performing arts center.
