More than one million Excelsior Passes have been retrieved, Cuomo says

May 24, 2021 5:30 am

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo May 22, announced that more than one million Excelsior Passes have been issued since the state launched the voluntary platform in March. The pass is now being used by venues, universities, stadiums and businesses statewide as a free and secure way to provide digital proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test results, according to a statement from the governor's office. "The fact that we've so quickly achieved a milestone — more than 1 million passes issued — speaks to New Yorkers' desire to resume many of the activities they've given up over the past year and is good news for bringing our economy back and building a stronger state for the future. ..." The announcement comes in the wake of recent reports that the program has been plagued with glitches and many users have been unable to download their digital proof of vaccination. The hiccups in the immunization database are causing registrants to land on the "We couldn't find your pass" screen at the registration website. A spokesperson for the state this week said an overwhelming number of people have downloaded the app without any complaints. Excelsior currently has a Vaccination Pass and two different Test Pass options. Right now passes can be retrieved only for COVID-19 vaccinations or negative test results received in the state of New York, but the state is working with regional and international partners to broaden its use. All Excelsior passes retrieved beginning May 20, will remain valid for 365 days. The pass is available 15 days after the final dose of the vaccine was administered. The pass includes a Help Desk with extensive resources, multi-language access, and is able to be printed for those who may not own smartphones. Read more at governor's [dot] ny [dot] gov.
