Feb 19, 2019 12:30 pm
Judy Rife is reporting for the Times Herald-Record the New York State Bridge Authority activated a new solar array Feb. 18, that will generate about 26 percent of the electricity it uses. The solar array was constructed on the west side of the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge for $117,000, and is expected to pay for itself within 13 years. The 1,300-panel array generates 486 watts, enough to power 62 homes for a year. Authority executive director Joseph Ruggiero said that now the Kingston-Rhinecliff array is up and running, the authority will explore building additional sites in an effort to reduce its dependence on commercially sourced electricity. The New York State Bridge Authority formed a public-private partnership with Active Solar Development and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to design and install the array. Active Solar will operate and maintain it. Read the full story at Record Online [dot] com.
