Diane Pineiro-Zucker is reporting for the Daily Freeman a skier has died at Hunter Mountain, the second fatal accident to occur at the resort in less than a month. On Sat., Feb. 2, 24-year-old Edward A. Chu, of Warren, N.J., died after striking a tree on the Rip’s Return trail, said state police Senior Investigator Bill Fitzmaurice. Rip's Return in an intermediate trail. Fitzmaurice said Chu, who was wearing a helmet, “had been a skier for a while,” but he did not know how often Chu skied or how proficient he was. Hunter Mountain said in an emailed statement the resort's management and staff are “devastated by this tragedy.” An unidentified skier Jan. 19, died in another incident at the resort. Greene County Sheriff Gregory Seeley said the person involved in the January accident was not wearing a helmet and “only ski[ed] once a year and absolutely shouldn’t have been there."
