The coronavirus outbreak in Greene County continues, with 64 total active cases right now, but there are also worrying signs everywhere else locally. In Greene County, 43 inmates in the Greene Correctional Facility, have tested positive, Greene County Public Health reported on social media. The Scott M. Ellis Elementary School in Greenville will remain closed until November 2, Columbia-Greene Media report, after three students and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The school stopped in-person teaching last week because of coronavirus which health officials claim traces back to the Greene Correctional Facility cluster. The River Newsroom reported that the number of active cases in Columbia County has nearly doubled in the past week. Currently 16 staff members and three youth at the Columbia Girls Secure Center and Brookwood Secure Center in Claverack have tested positive. There are also six new cases of COVID-19 confirmed Oct. 23 by the Rensselaer County Health Dept., including two cases involving employees at county's Van Rensselaer Manor nursing home. Albany County confirmed its 139th coronavirus death, the Times Union reported Oct. 23. The Shire Pub in Delhi in Delaware County announced yesterday that they were closing down because an employee had a fever. Ulster County neared 200 active cases on Oct. 23, The Daily Freeman reported. And hospitalizations in New York have now exceeded 1,000 for the first time since June 24., and a new American pandemic record of 83,010 cases was reported Oct. 23.
