WFP endorses Michael Hofmann for Hudson treasurer

Mar 02, 2021 6:23 am

Hudson resident Michael Hofmann Fri., Feb. 26, announced he will challenge incumbent Hudson City Treasurer Heather Campbell in the next election. “I am thrilled to take the next step in public service and leadership here in Hudson,” Hofmann said in a written statement. “This campaign is an enormous opportunity for us to take a fresh and critical look at our finances and operations, and engage in constructive public discussion about how Hudson can recover from its pandemic-induced losses.” Hofmann looks forward to sharing his plan for upgrading city technological infrastructure, to improve the accessibility of the city's financial data, and to develop new revenue streams. “Our budget is inherently a moral document — like all other work of elected officials, we have a responsibility to taxpayers to approach city finances both holistically and diligently, with an eye toward justice and equity,” Hofmann writes. Hofmann was born in New Jersey and moved to the Hudson Valley in 2009 to attend Vassar College. He moved to Hudson's 1st Ward in mid-2018. His professional background is in non-profit arts development and administration, and he currently serves as the Development Operations Manager for the Fisher Center at Bard. He is the co-founder of Citizens of Hudson, a social justice initiative. He is an advocate for racial justice and the welfare of the city's workers. Hofmann has been endorsed by the Working Families Party. If elected, he would be the city’s first openly gay treasurer.
