Board considering new market's impact on Craryville traffic
Jun 15, 2018 7:00 am
Diane Walden is reporting for The Columbia Paper on the details around the application under review by the Copake Planning Board submitted by a Connecticut-based company to build a gas station and convenience store at the intersection of State Route 23, County Route 7 and Craryville Road in the hamlet. GRJH, Inc. is hoping to build a 3,240 square-foot store with 12 fueling stations with access from State Route 23. Neighbors in the area are concerned about increased traffic at what they say is an already dangerous intersection. A traffic study submitted by GRJH in support of its application determined the market would generate 73 new vehicle trips during the morning peak hour and 78 new vehicle trips during the afternoon, and drivers using the intersection after the store is built will experience “a maximum increase of vehicular delay less than five seconds on any movement.” The study found the intersection conditions do not meet the minimum requirements for the installation of a traffic light. The public hearing on the application remains open. The Copake Planning Board July 5 meeting has been cancelled. The board will revisit the GRJH application at its next meeting, 7 p.m., August 2, at town hall. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
