Forest Invader Event - Asiatic Bittersweet at Lake Myosotis Location: Lake Myosotis on Pond Hill Road in Rensselaerville, NY. Saturday, April 17th from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM If you've visited the Huyck Preserve's Lake Myosotis at the beach or boat launch, you likely noticed vines covering the trees and shrubs along the road and driveway. Those vines are Asiatic bittersweet, an invasive species that can climb, girdle, and shade out native trees. Please join Stewardship Coordinator Garrett Chisholm in helping to maintain the beauty of Lake Myosotis by helping us tackle this forest invader. Need more motivation? The event will include a contest to see who can find and cut the thickest vine! Guest bittersweet guru, George Robinson, Ph.D., will be the judge, and the winner will receive a $15 gift card to Kuhar Family Farm http://kuharfamilyfarm.weebly.com/! Tools will be provided, but bring your own favorite hand saw and/or loppers and work gloves if you have them. Water, sturdy shoes and long pants/sleeves are required. Masks and social distancing are required. No bathrooms or other indoor amenities will be available; please plan accordingly. Registration is required, and the event will be limited to 18 people to maintain social distancing protocols.
