Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County lawmakers are moving forward with plans to temporarily relocate the county sheriff’s office, as well as the processing and holding area for detainees. At the meeting of the Greene County Legislature's Public Safety Committee October 9, representatives discussed moving the offices to the 3,600-square-foot building located at 370 Mansion Street in Coxsackie. No formal vote was taken on the move, even though the state Commission of Corrections approved the Mansion Street location on September 28. “The obvious, best answer is to do it all in Coxsackie,” said Legislator Lee Palmateer, a Democrat who represents Athens. “What else is there to talk about?” In addition to paying $4,200 a month in rent, the building must be returned to its pre-existing condition when the county moves out, according to the pending contract, Legislator Kevin Lennon, Democrat of Catskill, said. The state Commission of Corrections has recommended security improvements to the building estimated to cost approximately $50,000. Sheriff Greg Seeley will maintain an office in the Greene County Office Building at 411 Main St. in Catskill. The sheriff’s office will also have a satellite location on the second floor of the Greenville Pioneer building, on Route 32 in Greenville. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
