Produced by Hap Holly, KC9RP.

In the early to mid 1960s the Swan company was a mainstay in ham radio with the release of single sideband mono-band transceivers like the SW120, SW140, SW175, followed by multi-band transceivers 240, 350 and 400. In 1966 Swan released the SW500, which was very similar to its predecessor, the 350. In fact the finals, a pair of 6HF5 sweep tubes were identical. However, the 350 was rated at 350w PEP; and the 500 was rated at 500w PEP. In the beginning of part 2 of the Swan/Atlas Story, RAIN's Hap Holly/KC9RP asked Swan & Atlas Founder, Herb Johnson/W6QKI, "Why?"
