Last week it was widely reported that a harbor seal was spotted in the Hudson River by The Friends of Albany Rowing team. The Department of Environmental Conservation released a statement, explaining, "During the winter, harbor seals are found in lower New York Harbor, but these seals do travel this far up the Hudson from time to time following food." Now The Daily Freeman is reporting a Dutchess County man has been charged with violating New York's environmental conservation law for keeping live sharks in a pool in his Dutchess County basement, the state attorney general and environmental commissioner announced March 20. Joshua Seguine, 38, of LaGrangeville, had seven sandbar sharks in a basement pool. That elicited another DEC statement. State Environmental Commissioner Basil Seggos said, "harboring and selling protected species for one’s personal financial gain is not only illegal, it’s immoral."
