The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Mon., Nov. 16, announced Jeffrey Hunt's employment as president and CEO was terminated last week following a vote by the chamber's Executive Committee. The firing was made effective immediately. In a letter to the membership, Derick H. LaTorre, Chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors, said the decision to terminate Hunt's employment was made in light of "financial irregularities of which the Executive Board was just made aware." Most of the information related to the termination is confidential and the matter is under investigation, LaTorre wrote. He acknowledged that the news will likely come as a shock to many. LaTorre said as more of the details become available, additional updates will be provided to the chamber membership. Hunt was hired by the Columbia County Chamber in June 2016. Prior to taking the position, he served as president and CEO of the Greater Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Hunt served in that position for four years and eight months. Hunt formerly worked on Capitol Hill where he was a Lyndon Baines Johnson Fellow and legislative assistant in the 102nd Congress. He is a 1992 graduate of Howard University.
