Patricia Doxsey is reporting for the Daily Freeman Democrats are lining up to become Ulster County's next comptroller. Lisa Cutten, a certified public accountant and director of the county's Division of Accountability, Compliance and Efficiency, expressed an interest in the job last month, before Elliott Auerbach announced he would vacate the post. Cutten is a former city of Kingston treasurer. Democrat March Gallagher announced in a press release May 3, her intention to run for the office. The attorney and president and chief executive officer of Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley will hold a formal kickoff event May 10. No Republicans have announced plans to run yet. Under the Ulster County Charter, the county Legislature must appoint a successor to Auerbach to serve through the end of the year. An election will be held in November to choose the person to serve the final two years of the current term. Auerbach will be leaving the post on May 16 to become a deputy state comptroller. He has recommended his deputy, Evan Gallo, be appointed by the Legislature to serve as interim comptroller. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
