Motel demolition underway
Jan 03, 2019 12:15 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media demolition of the former Quality Inn in Catskill began Jan. 2, following months of setbacks. The hotel was originally scheduled to be demolished by Thanksgiving, but the work was delayed due to scheduling conflicts with Bronze Contracting, Greene County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Rene VanSchaack said. In addition, Kolath Hotels & Casinos Inc., the former owner of the property, attempted to get the property back in 2012, which ultimately lead to Kolath filing an appeal Nov. 27, with a federal appeals court over the county IDA's acquisition of the property. According to Trafton, the most recent information on the pending litigation is unavailable. The county IDA is now accepting proposals for a new hotel to be constructed at the site on Route 23B. VanSchaack said the community is excited to see the structure finally coming down. “People have been pulling in here taking pictures all morning,” VanSchaack said. “It’s the biggest thing in town.” The demolition is projected to take roughly two weeks. The cost of demolition is expected to be approximately $148,000. The project's full price tag should be in the $400,000 range. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
