Emilia Teasdale is reporting in The Columbia Paper on the details of Columbia County's overall response to the opioid abuse crisis. In a presentation to the Kinderhook Town Board this week, Public Health Educator Victoria McGahan, and Coordinator Kristy Frederick from the Columbia County Health Department, discussed the ongoing efforts, as well as other health and community matters. They talked about the county Board of Supervisors’ Opioid Epidemic Response Plan, which was adopted in April. A section of that document highlights the need for a local detox center . Frederick pointed out that currently people seeking treatment must look outside the area. But while there is no detox center located in Columbia County, she said, the part-time county-supported mental health clinic going into the Ichabod Crane High School this year, and expanded hours for a crisis intervention hotline provide much-needed additional support to county residents. On Wed., Sep. 13, the county also announced a series of forums on the crisis will be held in various towns countywide during the coming months. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
