Corina Cappabianca reports for News10 in Albany that legislation in the New York State Senate and Assembly would make it possible to fix digital products. Currently most cell phones, smart washing machines, and almost any appliance that goes online, are nearly impossible for anyone to fix, as companies do not release schematics, or limit information in manuals. The proposed Digital Fair Repair Act would change that. “We want to make sure that an individual has the right to repair; that he can go to a repair shop and have the directions on how to fix it from the manufacturer,” Sen. Neil Breslin said. The bills require manufacturers to release diagnostic and repair info for digital items to the public. “Farmers want to fix things and need to fix these things in the field and having information where they are able to do that is incredibly important to them, especially when we have short growing systems,” Jeff Williams with the New York Farm Bureau said.
