Schoharie County considers casinos

Erika Eklund in The Mountain Eagle reports that residents in Schoharie County get to air their views on a casino opening in their county, at a public hearing Tue., April 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium at Cobleskill-Richmondville High School. Last year, county leaders voted against a resolution supporting a casino in Schoharie, then later passed the resolution after the folks who run Howe Caverns, the area's largest tourist draw, gave a presentation in support of the idea. In a 2013 general election Schoharie County voters indicated they were in support of the idea of casino gaming in upstate New York by a vote of 4,672 to 4,417. Voters in the towns of Carlisle, Sharon, and Seward, however, voted against the casino gaming amendment. Read the full story in The Mountain Eagle.
