Art of Failure

Art Of Failure is a duo of the French artists Nicolas Maigret and Nicolas Montgermont. Their work is fueled by avant-garde movements and artistic and scientific experiments. In their realizations, the internal characteristics of the media are revealed through their errors, dysfunctions, borderlines or failure threshold, with which they develop sensory and immersive audio visual experiences. They present their work in various forms including performances, installations, and on-line projects.

Nicolas Maigret has been developing an experimental practice of sound and electronic images (performances, installations, programming, radio) since 2001. After studies at the School of Fine Art of Besançon, where he followed a theoretical education about the avant-garde, he joined the laboratory Locus-Sonus in Nice dedicated to audio art research. More recently, Maigret is involved in an artist-run space named Plateforme in Paris.

Nicolas Montgermont studies the relations between art and sciences using the computer as a medium. After a achieving adeptness in signal processing, he studied the sciences applied to music at the IRCAM center, with a focus on real time control of synthesis. His work incorporates numerical aesthetics, using and developing personal tools to explore the specific possibilities of a computer. In addition to his involvement with Art of Failure, Montgermont is also a member of the chdh collective. He currently he teaches at the Louis Lumière school.
