Emilia Teasdale in The Columbia Paper reports that the Valatie Free Library on Church Street closed for the last time Jan. 6, set to re-open in a new space Jan. 12. The new library is at 1036 Kinderhook Street with its own parking lot and almost double the space. “We had some generous donors,” said Board Treasurer Fran Fullerton, including contractor Jeff Johnson of J&J Contracting. The library's board still needs to raise about $8,000 to complete the new building. The library serves Valatie, Niverville and parts of Kinderhook and was on Church Street since 1948. The new space was the Steam Railroad Freight Barn, and the library bought it for $125,000. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
