Lt. Gov. Hochul takes a Skywalk

Jun 08, 2019 12:49 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul visited the Hudson River Skywalk on June 7. No state officials attended the official opening June 1. The project is an $11 million gift to the Olana State Historic Site in Greenport and the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, with sidewalks linking the two projects on either side of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. There are also bike paths that do not link Catskill and Hudson. Most people who notice the project are in cars, and slowed by other cars having problems navigating the roundabout that is part of the project, at the bottom of the hill from Olana. “People are getting an extra 45 seconds of beauty,” Tara Sullivan, acting executive director of the state Bridge Authority, said. “It forces them to slow down, be safe and take in the incredible view.” While the story claims the construction took only two months, crews are still working on the site, and signs still warn drivers to slow down more than normal in the construction zone.
