Jun 24, 2020 6:30 am
Patricia Doxsey is reporting for the Daily Freeman Ulster County Attorney Clint Johnson will head the new police reform commission established by County Executive Pat Ryan. The group is charged with the improvement of policing practices and promote criminal justice in the county. Ryan signed an executive order June 23, creating the commission, which is mandated under an order by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Ryan said the Ulster County Justice and Reform Commission will convene by the end of June and focus on ending mass incarceration; police oversight and accountability; addressing systemic racial bias; and healing divisions between law-enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. Ryan said in a press release announcing the commission, “Working alongside stakeholders representing key communities...the Ulster County Justice and Reform Commission will actively listen to the community to create a meaningful plan for implementing needed criminal justice reforms." The 14-member commission will meet regularly over the next several months and hold a series of public forums, Ryan said. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
