Audio Feature: Blair Horner of NYPIRG on court decision rejecting district lines
Apr 30, 2022 6:03 am
On April 27, New York's highest court in a split decision, 4-3, threw out the newly drawn election lines for Congress and the state Senate on the grounds that state lawmakers engaged in partisan gerrymandering to favor Democrats. The court ordered the lower court to draft new lines for this fall’s elections even though petitioning has been completed for the major parties. The court said they expect that the primaries for Congress and the Senate may have to be shifted to August. Blair Horner of NYPIRG reviews the impact of this decision both in this year and after the next census. With Mark Dunlea for WOOC.
