Poll finds support for ConCon low
Bill Mahoney is reporting for Politico New York a newly released poll indicates the Constitutional Convention referendum on the ballot Tuesday is likely headed for defeat. Only 25 percent of those surveyed support holding a convention, while 57 percent oppose it, according to a Siena College Research Institute poll released Wed., Nov. 1. Opposition to the convention came from nearly every possible political group. “Democrats and independents oppose ConCon by about two-to-one, while Republicans oppose it better than three-to-one,” said Siena spokesman Steve Greenberg. Ten previous polls found voters supported the idea. A survey taken by Siena four weeks ago found the proposition was supported 44 to 39 percent. The dramatic decrease in support came as more people became aware of the question, possibly due to a multimillion-dollar opposition campaign from organized labor.
